The Puma Clyde is easily the brand quintessence of the German shoemaker. It’s a pair that has had a storied history, playing a big role in some of the world’s most pivotal moments. It’s associations are significant but its pedigree, the root of its cult status, all leads to one Walt “Clyde” Frazier, the basketball icon and earliest endorser.

During his active playing days, he was nonpareil when it comes to flash on court and off. He was the Dennis Rodman of his time, the Russell Westbrook of his generation, if there’s a metaphor easiest for this era of fans to understand. Even the suede makeup of the shoe became so as it was easier to dye because Walt Frazier wanted a new colorway every time he sported them. 390 is estimated to have been used in his time.

Now in its 50th anniversary, Puma begins the celebrations with a “Classic” collection with END., who’s no stranger when it comes to collaborations. As its titular “Classic” name suggests, the three colorways invited to the party—”Puma Navy”, “For All Time Red”, and “Pine Needle”—all arrive in its original suede tooling.

The collection retains the original build of the model, but elevated by the new finishings on its make. As mentioned earlier, suede washes over the entirety of the upper in its titular colorways. The uniformity is only broken up by the “Frosted Ivory” that adorns the Puma strike logo on the profiles and the sole unit below.

A regal golden finish land on the imprints sporadic on the pair, namely the hallmark “Puma Clyde” imprint on the higher quarter; the “END.” branding on the heel tab and the numbered markers on the lateral heel.

As indicated, only 300 pairs will be produced of each colorway making the celebratory pair hyper-exclusive. Raffle for them has begun over at END. with the winners announced on 27 January. They’re currently listed with an RRP of US$155.
