The Nike Air Jordan 4 is easily one of the most popular Air Jordan silhouettes, probably second only to the archetypal AJ1. The brainchild of one Tinker Hatfield, the de facto “Michael Jordan” of sneaker design, the AJ4 was released in 1989.

The same year, its legend was made during Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Playoffs against the Cleveland Cavaliers; where His Airness scored a buzzer beater, putting them up 101–100. The moment now known as the “The Shot”.

Not long after, it transcended its on-court pedigree when it was famously featured in Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing (1989). It has since been retroed on numerous occasions while also being a favorite among collaborators such as A Ma Maniére, who are taking on the silhouette for the second time this year.

Riding on the inertia built up from 2023’s Nike SB x Air Jordan 4 “Pine Green”, it’s purported all the AJ4s moving forward will feature the same make: enhanced padding and improved grip—the whole enchilada.
