[Update 8 Sep 2022] Exciting news! What we thought was just a one-off collaboration on the Puma Slipstream Lo is actually a three-part project between the two German brands. The Slipstream Lo is merely the first instalment, and is dropping globally on MCM’s website on 8 Sep and Puma’s website on 10 Sep.

In October, a second Show Up inspired by MCM’s Cubic Monogram will make an appearance. Finally, a third drop will see the light in the first half of 2023, which features the TRC Blaze Court. No sneak peeks for the subsequent two releases have surfaced, but campaign images for the MCM x Puma Slipstream Lo are available. Check them out on our slider gallery!

MCM, among its luxury leather peers, has always been the one that’s slightly off the well-carpeted opulent path. While other brands focussed on creating leather offerings that emanate graceful luxe, MCM exuded disco’s audacious funk with leathers in caramel browns, striking blues and fondant pinks that were monogrammed with the house’s Visetos motifs. Often times, they’re also decorated with spikes and other metal embellishments, but what made this brand really gain credence was its appearance alongside It-crowd celebrities.

Despite MCM’s German roots, the brand’s present-day audiences lie in South Korea. This is largely due to the brand’s acquisition by Sungjoo Group, but can also be attributed to the brand’s classy-but-kitschy look that resonated with South Korea’s fashionistas. In a similar trajectory, Puma is also a German brand that gained popularity in South Korea. Their approach towards the market was to partner up with popular celebrities and pivoted their branding towards the young, trendy crowd. Which is quite similar to MCM’s rise, don’t you think?

MCM and Puma have found common ground in the past with a collaboration on the Puma Suede, and it looks like their partnership have reignited in the later half of 2022. Pointing its leather expertise towards the Puma Slipstream, the basketball silhouette is revamped with Italian leather uppers and brown suede trim. Notably, MCM house Vesitos motifs take over the Slipstream’s panel strips, making the shoe a distinctively MCM x Puma collaboration.

A raffle for this upcoming MCM x Puma Slipstream is happening on Korean retailer Musinsa. It will start on 8 September, 10PM KST (9PM SGT) and run through 9 September, 10PM KST (9PM SGT). Winners are announced on 13 September, 9AM KST (8AM KST). The collaborative sneaker will retail for ₩560,000 (~US$413).
