Pokémon TCG Baxcalibur

Almost immediately after making its Pokémon TCG debut in the Snow Hazard [SV2P] expansion set, Baxcalibur became a mainstay of Pokémon TCG tournament play. Its immense power and considerable versatility made it a key component of many decks, particularly those featuring Water-type Pokémon. As such, it was to be expected that it would eventually receive a reprint as part of the upcoming Chien-Pao ex Battle Master Deck.

This card bearing a rarity of Shiny (S) was reprinted this way as part of the Shiny Treasure ex [SV4a] set. As alluded to by its rarity as well as the set’s name, this version of the Baxcalibur card showcases the Shiny form of the ninth-generation pseudo-Legendary. The stars and sparkles in the background of the illustration serve to highlight this fact.

Now, moving on to gameplay-related matters, this card serves as an ideal support card in a great many decks built around Water-type Pokémon. Super Cold, the Dragon/Ice-type Pokémon’s Ability, enables the player to attach a Water Energy card from the hand to any of the player’s Pokémon as frequently as the player desires. The Ability is a passive one; it can be utilized as long as Baxcalibur remains in play.

Although Baxcalibur is most commonly paired with Chien-Pao ex, some players have experimented with using Baxcalibur as part of a Water Box deck. Such a deck involves the use of Baxcalibur to power up Kyogre and Articuno, both from Incandescent Arcana [S11a], as well as Radiant Greninja from Battle Region [S9a].

In English, this card is card 130/091 of the Paldean Fates [PAF] set.

The cost of a Baxcalibur (Shiny Treasure ex [SV4a] 235/190) is 4,790 JPY (~US$31).
