Understanding the sneaker landscape can be useful, especially if you want to invest in pairs that will have value in the future. Or perhaps you just want to come correct. No wrong answers here. If you’re interested, here’s our opinion on what we predict to be five sneaker trends in 2025.

1. Retro Revival

Last year saw brands like Nike and New Balance bringing back retro classics like the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 and New Balance 1000 among many others. Even adidas kept releasing new colorways and renditions of their classic silhouettes like the Samba, Tobacco, and Gazelle.

Shoe brands going back into their vaults to resurrect retro classics in 2025 won’t be an uncommon phenomenon. It’s a template that works, and the resurgence of ’00s fashion only serves to add fuel to the fire.

In 2025, look forward to New Balance releasing a plethora of renditions of the 1000, Nike re-releasing classic Jordan colorways like the Air Jordan 1 High ’85 “Bred”, Air Jordan 4 “White Cement”, and Air Jordan 5 OG “Black Metallic Reimagined”, and adidas continuing its introduction of new colorways to classic lines.

2. Hybrid Shoes

Frankenstein creations that aren’t monsters; such is the nature of hybrid shoes—a phenomenon seen in the sneaker market today. 2024 saw the introduction of the New Balance 1906L, a loafer version of the 1906R. Response to it was polarising, but for those who have the fashion sense and gall to pull it off, it’s a chef’s kiss to an outfit.

Then, mules entered the scene, turning familiar silhouettes into slip-ons. Salmon hiking shoes? Nope, now they’re mules. Nike rode this wave with the Clogposite, and almost any shoe brand has the mule version to a popular silhouette in their discography; even skate shoe brand Vans.

Of course, we can’t forget performance running shoes doubling up as lifestyle sneakers. Techwear and athleisure aside, these joints are also being worn in the same fashion running shoes like the New Balance 1906R and ASICS GEL-KAYANO 14 are. Will they be able to reach the levels of popularity of such silhouettes? Probably not, but this trend can’t be ignored.

3. Low-Profile Silhouettes

Low-profile silhouettes like the Samba, Gazelle, and Spezial don’t seem to be going anywhere in 2025. There’s something about their minimalist approach that speaks to the masses. This trend is the antithesis to the retro pairs making their revival, but perhaps the juxtaposition that people need in their rotation. Got to have sweet after salty, right?

Other brands with low-profile shoes to look out for include PUMA with the Speedcat OG, Onitsuka Tiger with the Mexico 66, and Nike’s Cortez. Another adidas silhouette making a run for the money in this arena is the SL72.

You can’t go wrong getting a pair of low-profile shoes to add to your rotation in 2025; having one is pretty much a staple at this point.

4. Travis Scott Collaborations

The popularity of almost every Travis Scott shoe drop warrants this to be a category of its own. As was before, we don’t expect the hype surrounding his sneaker releases to taper off any time soon. In 2025, the American rapper has a stellar line-up with Nike.

Shoes that can be expected include Travis Scott x Jordan Jumpman Jack TR “Taupe Haze”, Travis Scott x Nike Jordan Jumpman Jack SP “Sail”, fragment design x Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low “White/Blue”, and many more.

The challenge with any Travis Scott shoe release is but one: managing to get your hands on one. Retail releases are highly competitive, and disappointment abounds. There’s yet hope for you, however, because the SNKRDUNK App is more likely than not to carry the pair of Travis Scott shoes you’re looking for in 2025.

5. Sustainability-Focused Designs

Today’s consumers care about the environment more than ever. And they’re putting their money where their mouth is. According to the PwC 2024 Voice of the Consumer Survey, people are willing to spend an average of “9.7% more on sustainably produced or sourced goods, even as cost-of-living and inflationary concerns weigh”.

Moving ahead in 2025, we don’t expect this trend to dissipate in the least. Sustainable sneakers will likely have their spot in many rotations, and it’s becoming easier than ever for customers to get their hands on a pair.

Nike, adidas, New Balance, ASICS, and the like have their respective lines of sustainable shoes. Then, of course, there are brands like Wasted Collective who have the Earth Shoe 01, and Allbirds who have a whole range of sustainable shoes—arguably the best in the space. They are releasing the world’s first net zero carbon shoe, the M0.0NSHOT, this year.

There’s lots to look forward to in the sustainable shoe space in 2025.

Conclusion

Sneaker trends to know in 2025 include the resurgence of retro shoes, hybrid shoes, low-profile silhouettes, and sustainable shoes. If you’re looking to invest in a pair that’s to hold value over the course of the year, or to just look good, copping a pair that falls into one or more of these categories is a safe bet.
