[Pokémon TCG] The Ethan’s Typhlosion Deck Could Be an Emerging Under-the-Radar Pick
Single-Prize decks are something of an anomaly in the current meta—but perhaps this deck might go some way towards changing that.

To date, the Ethan’s Typhlosion deck doesn’t have much of a tournament track record to its name. Apart from an eighth-place finish in the hands of Song Seunghun at the Korean League Final Season in June 2025, this deck hasn’t done much as of yet in tournament play. However, several players are, in fact, considering bringing it to the upcoming 2025 Pokémon TCG World Championships as they believe that this deck could end up one of the more notable off-meta picks at the global showpiece in Anaheim.
Strategy
With this deck, the setup process begins with the pre-evolution of its titular card: the Ethan’s Quilava card from Heat Wave Arena [SV9a]. Ethan’s Quilava has the Ability of Bonded by the Journey which allows the player to search the deck for a copy of the Ethan’s Adventure card from Heat Wave Arena [SV9a] and put it in hand. Ethan’s Adventure can subsequently be used to retrieve three cards from the deck; these three cards are to be Ethan’s Pokémon cards or Fire Energy cards in any combination.
Using all those Ethan’s Adventure cards powers up Buddy Blast, the main attack of Ethan’s Typhlosion. Buddy Blast has 40 base damage for one Fire Energy card—but with every Ethan’s Adventure card in the player’s discard pile, the attack’s damage output increases by 60. As such, there’s a possibility that Ethan’s Typhlosion could be dishing out 280 damage per hit for just one Energy card under ideal conditions.
This deck only contains single-Prize Pokémon; there are no Pokémon-ex in it. As such, the player can sometimes afford to take more risks than those using other decks might as there’s usually no chance of surrendering more than one Prize card in a single turn.
Price
Buying every card in the Ethan’s Typhlosion deck will cost at least 7,360 JPY (~US$50).
