[Update 17 Dec 2024] Pioneered by Australian player Antony Wei who took it to the victory at the Melbourne Treasure Cup, a new variant of this deck includes the Emporio Ivankov and Duval cards from the Zoro & Sanji Starter Deck [ST-12] as well as the Curly Dadan card from Paramount War [OP-02]. All three cards are intended to be played in the early game and serve as board presence enhancements; the Ivankov card is also a draw engine.

[Update 25 Oct 2024] Three cards from the Red Edward Newgate Starter Deck [ST-15]—Thatch, Portgas D. Ace, and the Edward Newgate Character card—are the new entries in a new Red/Blue Marco deck variant. These cards are most effective when played in the mid-game to late game.

ONE PIECE Card Game Red/Blue Marco Deck

The Red/Blue Marco deck is one of the three new ONE PIECE Card Game decks centered around a Leader card from Two Legends [OP-08] which have gone on to make an impact on the metagame. A deck that prioritizes board control and draw value, this deck has already garnered solid results across Flagship Battle and Standard Battle tournaments in Southeast Asia and Japan; it’s now begun to make headway elsewhere as well following the international release of Two Legends [OP-08].

Strategy

Unlike the Yellow Kalgara and Purple/Yellow Pudding decks, the two other new decks which are meta-viable, the Red/Blue Marco deck makes much heavier use of its titular card’s Leader effect which both serves as a draw engine and reduces an opposing Character’s maximum Power by 2000 during the turn the effect is used. This Leader effect pairs nicely with a pair of Marco Character cards—one from Pillars of Strength [OP-03] and one from Paramount War [OP-02]. This trio of Marco cards, when used correctly, set up easy KO’s relatively early in the game and give the player an early board advantage.

The deck’s Leader card also works in tandem with Izo from Pillars of Strength [OP-03] to create a dual draw engine and thus set up the aforementioned pair of Marco Character cards. In the mid-game, it can also be used to set up the Portgas D. Ace card from 500 Years in the Future [OP-07] which serves as a hand filter as well as a blocker to keep the deck’s Leader card protected.

The primary attackers of this deck in the late game are Edward Newgate from Paramount War [OP-02], Silvers Rayleigh from Two Legends [OP-08], and Sanji from Wings of the Captain [OP-06]. The Rayleigh card should be played first for its ability to reduce the Power of opposing Characters. Following this, the Newgate and Sanji cards combine their massive Power totals with the Leader card’s effect to inflict enormous damage and ideally put the opponent in a position from which a comeback becomes all but impossible.

This deck’s most difficult matchup is the Green Bonney deck. That’s because an opposing Green Bonney deck is able to stall out the game through prevention of attacks from the player’s Character or Leader cards. Additionally, the Red/Blue Marco deck doesn’t have a true counter for the Green Bonney deck’s Roronoa Zoro card from Wings of the Captain [OP-06]. That being said, via a combination of the Marco card from Pillars of Strength [OP-03], Seaquake from Paramount War [OP-02], the Rayleigh card, and the deck’s Leader effect, the Green Bonney deck’s other key Character cards can be dealt with.

Price

In total, the price of all the cards in the Red/Blue Marco deck is 28,960 JPY (~US$199).
