The latest updates to Konami’s banned and restricted Yu-Gi-Oh TCG card list have now been announced. As always, these changes are intended to better balance the current metagame and account for cards that are now deemed to be “broken”, no longer are so, or are approaching that status. A total of 21 cards have had their respective statuses altered. These updates take effect on 1 July 2024 and apply to Yu-Gi-Oh TCG tournaments in Japan and Asia-Pacific.
Two cards have now been completely banned from any tournament decks; these are Catapult Turtle and Kaiser Colosseum. Kaiser Colosseum had previously been semi-restricted, meaning that prior to the ban, a player could not have more than two copies of it in each of the player’s official tournament decks. There had previously been no restrictions placed on Catapult Turtle.
Eight cards have been moved to the restricted category; as such, just one of a player’s registered tournament decks can contain those cards. Two of them have been taken off the banlist and can therefore be used in tournaments in a more limited capacity. Those cards are Performage Plushfire and Majespecter – Unicorn, Kirin.
The remaining six cards, on the other hand, have had restrictions tightened. S:P Little Knight and Snake-Eye Ash have been moved up from the semi-restricted category. The cards that have been moved into the restricted category from previously having been unrestricted, meanwhile, are Number 40: Gimmick Puppet of Strings, Sangen Summoning, Summon Limit, and Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal.
Six cards are now semi-restricted; all but one have had restrictions relaxed having been moved down from the restricted category. Those cards are SPYRAL Quick-Fix and the four main Dragon Ruler cards: Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos; Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders; Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls; and Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms. The one card that’s been moved from the unrestricted category into the semi-restricted category is Bonfire.
Finally, five cards are now unrestricted. All but one of these had been in the restricted category before having all restrictions removed; those cards are Glow-Up Bulb, Thunder Dragon Colossus, Time Seal, and Predaplant Orphys Scorpio. The only card that has had its status changed from semi-restricted to unrestricted is Ib, the World Chalice Justiciar.
