Looking Back at Kendrick Lamar’s Shoes
With his 37th birthday coming up on 17 June, we thought we'd pay some respect to a side of the 17-time Grammy winner that transcends hip-hop, a side you might find in your shoe collection.
If you landed here seeking the answer to what size shoes Kendrick Lamar wears, the answer is it’s not a size 7, as rapper Drake might speculate. In fact, according to popular sneaker boutique RIF LA, he wears anywhere from a men’s size 8.5 to 9.5.
Lamar’s recent rap beef with Drake has the audience split as to who won—although, if we’re being technical, K. Dot definitely bagged the win. Also known as King Kunta, Kungfu Kenny, and Cornrow Kenny, Kendrick Lamar’s mainstream popularity dates back much further than his beef with Drake.
The Compton-born rapper took a path slightly different from his contemporaries. While most artists hailing from the gang-infested city of Los Angeles would usually glorify their gang roots and amp up their street cred, Kendrick chose to go the other route. While never denying his roots, he instead chose to focus on the negative impact gang culture has had on the society he grew up in.

“…from Compton I could’ve easily come out and said I did this, I did that…just given off the fact [of] where I’m from. But that ain’t me; I rather talk about my reality…I rather talk about something a little bit more deeper than that. The reasons, and the problems, and the solutions behind it,” he mentioned in a 2016 interview with Noisey.
No wonder he’s loved and respected and can visit his old neighborhood without problems, even though he’s become a global sensation. Thanks to Big Tech, his highly-anticipated next concert, presented by pgLang and Free Lunch, will quite literally be a global one. The “The Pop Out: Ken & Friends” will be live-streamed from the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. Catch it via Prime Video and Amazon Music’s Twitch Channel on 19 June at 4PM (PT)/7PM (ET).

Lamar’s work with brands like Reebok, Nike, and Converse has seen him reimagine classic silhouettes across all three brands.

With Reebok, Kendrick put his spin on the Ventilator, Classic Leather, and Club C. His work with Nike resulted in multiple iterations of the Cortez and a pair of React Element 55s. Then, with Converse, he put his fingerprint on the Chuck 70 Hi and Pro Leather.
The end result is 16 distinct shoes across three major shoe brands. A lot for a rapper who made it out of Compton, or “Bompton” as his peers from his neighborhood might say.
