ONE PIECE Card Game Monkey D. Luffy

Let’s face it—as soon as the ONE PIECE Card Game made its debut with the Romance Dawn [OP-01] set, one of the first questions was always going to be “what will the first Monkey D. Luffy card be like?” After all, Luffy isn’t just the protagonist of One Piece—he’s one of the most iconic figures of pop culture in general, especially since the turn of the century. Thus, absolutely nobody was surprised when that inaugural Luffy card turned out to become one of the set’s biggest pulls.

The card’s Parallel Art illustration depicts a forward-facing Luffy with an outstretched hand—perhaps by way of his Devil Fruit powers. Like the other Parallel Art cards in Romance Dawn, this card features maps and related imagery in its background—likely so as to send the message that this is the introduction to the ONE PIECE Card Game.

An interesting detail which serious One Piece fans may have picked up on is the fact that in the card’s background, Luffy’s black cloak is showing flapping backwards in the wind. This shows that this particular image of Luffy is supposed to be from some point in the later portion of the Wano Country Arc. It wasn’t until the portion of the arc after Kozuki Oden’s flashback was shown that Luffy started donning that cloak.

This card’s English translation has already been released.

Buying a Monkey D. Luffy LP (Romance Dawn [OP-01] OP01-003) card costs 8,000 JPY (~US$52).
