The Dimension World arc of the Yu-Gi-Oh anime spin-off series Yu-Gi-Oh GX was perhaps its most compelling. For this reason, when Yu-Gi-Oh TCG cards related to Yubel, its main antagonist, had their first-ever releases as part of the Phantom Nightmare Core Booster, it was no surprise that they emerged as some of the set’s top picks. One of these cards was the Quarter Century Secret Rare version of the Spirit of Yubel card.

The card’s illustration shows Yubel staring menacingly while hovering over an area of the Spirit World. The holofoil that covers the card adds an ethereal effect that’s a perfect fit for an otherworldly force like Yubel.

This card is replete with references to Yu-Gi-Oh’s canonical lore. In the card’s background is the castle of the Duel Monsters Spirit World—the place where Yubel (then in human form) volunteered to be the Supreme King’s guardian.

In addition, the card’s name, illustration, and effects bear clear similarities to the Elemental HERO Spirit of Neos card from the Power of the Elements set. This is because Elemental HERO Spirit of Neos is a retrained counterpart of the Elemental HERO Neos card—the card made famous by Yu-Gi-Oh GX protagonist Jaden Yuki’s wielding of it in Yu-Gi-Oh GX.

Spirit of Yubel is itself a retrained counterpart of the Yubel card from the Phantom Nightmare +1 Bonus Pack. This gives it additional appeal for completionists trying to collect all the cards of the Yubel archetype.

This card has been released in English. The sale price of a Quarter Century Secret Rare version of a Spirit of Yubel (Phantom Nightmare PHNI-JP001) card is 5,480 JPY (~US$35).
