[Yu-Gi-Oh TCG] Galaxy War Drake Is a Polarizing Drop (V Jump June 2024 Promotional Card VJMP-JP253) [Release Date: 19 April 2024]
Who knows—perhaps the controversy will create more publicity, further driving up demand for the card in the long run.
Normally, Yu-Gi-Oh TCG card launch announcements are welcomed with great fanfare by the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG community. However, when Konami confirmed the upcoming drop of the Galaxy War Drake card to be released as a freebie that comes with the June 2024 edition of shōnen manga magazine V Jump, the fanbase’s reaction was clearly mixed.
While many were, as expected, hyped about a new card’s release—especially one which has never before been printed in the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG—others were less than thrilled. The dissenters were unimpressed by the fact that the card was an extender rather than a starter; most Galaxy cards are already extenders. At the moment, very few Galaxy cards are starters.
This card is classified as an extender because when Special Summoned, it increases its own Level as well as that of another controlled LIGHT monster to 8 until the end of the player’s turn. It’s not a starter because it can’t initiate any specific plays.
That being said, the controversy surrounding this Ultra Rare card might ultimately end up driving engagement and interest. After all, it isn’t often that a single-card release is talked about this much within the community.
The card’s illustration depicts the Galaxy War Drake in a combat-ready position in front of a cosmic background. The background not only alludes to the card’s name and archetype; from a visual perspective, it adds aesthetic contrast when paired with the metallic dragon.
This card has no English release date planned; it’s unlikely that there will ever be one.
As previously mentioned, the Galaxy War Drake card will come free with issues of the June 2024 issue of V Jump magazine. That issue will first be available on 19 April 2024.
