Play! Pokémon, the official governing body of Pokémon TCG tournament play, has announced the details regarding card rotations for the Standard and Expanded formats in the 2024-25 season.

All cards which bear the “E” regulation mark will no longer be legal in the 2024-25 Standard format. This means that cards from the Fusion Arts [S8] set and any older than those may not be used in tournament play under this format. Only cards with the “F”, “G”, or “H” marks will be permitted for use—with certain exceptions.

If an older card has received a reprint with a newer mark, the older card is permitted to be used. However, an older card which has received a reprint with one or more effects that differ from those of the original may not be used.

Some of the most notable cards which once dominated the metagame but will be “retired” from play include Mew VMAX and Battle VIP Pass from Fusion Arts [S8] as well as Path to the Peak from Silver Lance [S6H]. Although Path to the Peak did receive a reprint in the newer set Time Gazer [S10D], its “E” regulation mark remained and as such will be rotated out.

The new Standard format regulations came into effect on 21 March 2024 for Pokémon TCG Live play to serve as a testing platform for those regulations in in-person tournaments. The in-person play regulations come into effect on 5 April 2024.

The less popular Expanded format, meanwhile, remains as-is. Any card from the Black Collection [BW1] and White Collection [BW1] or newer is allowed to be used with the exceptions of the 24 cards on Play! Pokémon’s official blacklist.
