In the recent Utrecht Special Event, a major Pokémon TCG tournament held in Utrecht, Netherlands, Owyn Kamerman emerged victorious on home turf, steering his deck centered around Mew VMAX from the Fusion Arts [S8] expansion set to a decisive triumph.

While the specific version of Kamerman’s card might not have been the rarest or most valuable, such a version of that same Mew VMAX card does exist. This Full Art Hyper Rare (HR) card depicting the Dynamax form of the Mythical Pokémon is one of the most coveted of the entire set.

Though it isn’t explicitly stated, the card’s illustration implies that Mew VMAX is warping the very boundaries of the space-time continuum by its very presence—apt for one of the most metagame-defining cards in the history of the Pokémon TCG. There’s also a pop culture allusion thrown in—the telephone booth with a Poké Ball-shaped roof is a shout-out to iconic TV series Doctor Who.

More than two years since its initial release, Mew VMAX continues to remain arguably the most dominant card in the meta. This comes in spite of the fact that Creatures Inc. have taken note of this card’s exceptional power and even launched cards which were ostensibly intended to counter it such as Drapion V from Lost Origin [S11] and Mightyena from Battle Region [S9a]; Mew VMAX players have since figured out how to play around those so-called counters. This card’s status as the most overwhelming force in the meta further increases its value.

This card has been released in English where it’s card 269/264 of the Fusion Strike set.

A Mew VMAX (Fusion Arts [S8] 119/100) card of HR rarity sells for ¥59,800 (~US$407) according to the latest prices.
