ONE PIECE Card Game Banned Cards

First released as part of the Wings of the Captain [OP-06] booster pack, this Reject card recently made headlines as one of three cards banned from official gameplay by BANDAI as it had been creating imbalance within the ONE PIECE Card Game metagame.

Somewhat ironically, the reason behind the card’s ban runs counter to the depicted item’s status within the canon of One Piece. In-universe, the Reject Dial—a rarer and stronger version of the Impact Dial—unleashes incredible power but comes with a significant amount of backlash. The Reject Dial is seldom used because it may even kill an inexperienced wielder.

On the other hand, the Reject card provides the player with great benefit at very little risk. Allowing a KO of an opposing Character with a cost of 5 or less, Reject also lets the player deal 1 damage to the opponent if the opponent has a Life card before the player adds 1 card from the top of the player’s Life cards to the hand. It’s this combination of drawback-free positive effects coupled with the card’s massive win rate in tournament play that drove BANDAI to ban it.

Aesthetically, the card features Wyper, the Reject Dial’s primary user, attacking Enel with it. The scene depicted is one from the climax of the Skypiea Arc of which Enel is the primary antagonist. The sound effects of Wyper’s devastating blow can be seen in Japanese characters to further convey the power, fury, and desperation underpinning that single ferocious hit.

This card was released in English alongside rest of the Wings of the Captain [OP-06] booster pack.

The Reject (OP06-116) card has a retail price of just ¥220 (~US$1.45).
