[Pokémon TCG] Pikachu Master Ball Mirror Is the Franchise Icon’s Latest Banger (Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a] 025/165)
To the surprise of absolutely no one, this card is perhaps the set's most coveted.
The Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a] expansion set was specifically designed to bring a sense of nostalgia to long-time Pokémon TCG players and collectors who had been staying with the franchise ever since the first generation was launched nearly three decades ago. Unsurprisingly, the Master Ball Mirror edition of the Pikachu card has amassed the highest value of every card in it.
As the face of the Pokémon franchise, almost every Pikachu card comes with a certain amount of buzz. However, this one surpassed the usual hype for two reasons. Firstly, it came as part of Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a]—a set that can arguably be described as riding on sheer fanservice. While newer and/or younger Pokémon fans might mock “Genwunners”, the reality is that these “Genwunners” nevertheless do make up a big part of the fanbase and are especially likely to go after cards from this set.
Secondly, this card comes in a Master Ball Mirror edition which dots the card with Master Ball silhouettes. Not every card in the set comes in a Master Ball Mirror version—and for those which do, this version is far rarer than the original one. The Master Ball’s iconic place in the Pokémon canon as the “perfect Poké Ball” adds further impact.
In English, this card is 025/165 of the 151 [MEW] set.
The most recent prices peg a Master Ball Mirror version of a Pikachu (Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a] 025/165) card at ¥54,800 (~US$369).
