[Pokémon TCG] The Note Desolation Plays: Meloetta (Fusion Arts [S8] 048/100)
Though we wouldn't ordinarily spotlight a card with a rarity of Uncommon, we're making an exception here.
At first glance, this Meloetta card from the Pokémon TCG Fusion Arts [S8] expansion set appears unremarkable. It’s not particularly rare, expensive, or powerful in and of itself. Yet, there’s a reason it’s once again found its way into the spotlight.
As has so often been the case over the past two years and change, last week’s Utrecht Special Event Pokémon TCG tournament saw a deck led by the Mew VMAX card from Fusion Arts [S8] come out on top. However, that deck’s headliner would not even have come close to that level of success if it hadn’t been paired with this Meloetta card.
Meloetta hits hard and fast, allowing players to unleash a quick-fire Melodious Echo for major damage. In addition, even the Melody Pokémon’s presence alone makes things more difficult for opponents. Since VMAX Pokémon yield three of the six Prize Cards necessary for victory, two knockouts of Mew VMAX cards could get the job done. Players can instead sacrifice Meloetta to keep the deck’s signature Pokémon around to wreak even more havoc.
This card is notable almost entirely for its position within the metagame as neither its rarity of Uncommon (U) or its price tag of 270 JPY (~US$1.90) really move the needle much. Nevertheless, those who take part in tournament play will certainly be highly interested in this card.
This card’s English version is found in the Fusion Strike expansion set in which its card number is 124/264.
