[Update 30 May 2024] According to information from a thread on the PokeInvesting subreddit, the prices of all versions of the Raging Bolt ex card from Wild Force have recently been increasing at an incredible pace. This is due to the fact that following the release of Mask of Change [SV6], this card’s gameplay viability has skyrocketed.

The latest figures show that it’s possible for a copy of the Special Art Rare (SAR) version of Raging Bolt ex to sell for up to US$110. Even less rare versions of this card have seen a price spike; for example, the Double Rare version now goes for around US$10 per card—well above its prior value.

As the first roaming Legendary Pokémon, Raikou, Entei, and Suicune have indelible places in the Pokémon canon. When their prehistoric Paradox Pokémon ancestors were introduced to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, it was only to be expected that their respective Pokémon TCG cards would be among the most coveted pulls of their respective sets. Raikou’s ancestor Raging Bolt is one—and this Raging Bolt ex card is one of the star attractions of Wild Force [SV5K].

This Special Art Rare (SAR) card plays to Raging Bolt ex’s lore by picturing it making its way through a plain in the prehistoric setting of Pokémon Scarlet’s Area Zero. The lightning bolts and thunderclouds pictured around its head add to its aura of majesty and ferocity.

Additionally, this card features the newly-introduced “Ancient” mechanic, adding a novelty factor to the card. Gameplay-wise, Raging Bolt ex is also a viable choice due to its lack of a weakness, allowing it to last longer in combat.

This card’s English release will be as part of the Temporal Forces [TEF] set on 22 March 2024.

A copy of the SAR version of Raging Bolt ex (Wild Force [SV5K] 095/071) will cost ¥6,100 (~US$41).
