Best of fragment design by Hiroshi Fujiwara
In honor of Fujiwara's birthday, we've compiled a list showcasing some of his finest and most noteworthy works.
On 7 February, we celebrate more than just a date on the calendar—it marks the birthday of Hiroshi Fujiwara, one of the most influential figures in the global streetwear scene. Hailing from Ise, Mie, he is often referred to as the godfather of streetwear and a living internet.
His creative contributions extend beyond fashion, playing a pivotal role in shaping Japan’s current street culture landscape. Fujiwara is also widely credited with popularizing hip-hop culture in the country, where he enjoys an esteemed status as a music producer and DJ.
In addition to his contributions to Nike’s “HTM” line, his fragment design (FRGMT) imprint has been widely acclaimed as a prominent figure in the world of streetwear collaborations.
In honor of his birthday, we’ve compiled a list showcasing some of his finest and most noteworthy works.
Without delay, below are the standout works by Hiroshi Fujiwara’s fragment design:
fragment design x Travis Scott x Nike Air Jordan 1 Low & High
Undoubtedly one of the most coveted collaborations to date, the fragment design x Travis Scott x Nike Air Jordan 1 collection is widely considered a holy grail among sneakerheads.
The pairs showcase signature elements from all three parties, including fragment’s Military Blue hue, Travis’ Reverse Swoosh, and the Jordan Brand’s iconic silhouette. Embossed with lightning and the Cactus Jack logo on the heel counters, these sneakers provide a definitive statement of the influential status held by these two streetwear icons.
Thunderbolt Project by FRGMT & Pokémon
As a Japanese creative, partnering with Pokémon has not only propelled Fujiwara’s name to a broader global audience but also introduced a fresh and trendy perspective to the iconic Japanese media franchise.
Beyond offering an original range of apparel and collectibles, the collaborative project has extended its reach to include a high-end collection of technical wear through a partnership with Moncler.
Moreover, FRGMT and Pokémon have introduced the INN THUNDERBOLT PROJECT, a limited-time event hosted at the “sequence MIYASHITA PARK” hotel in Tokyo, promising fans an immersive staycation experience. Guests will receive amenity sets, a plush toy, and exclusive opportunities to purchase goods during their stay.
fragment design x Louis Vuitton
Undoubtedly serving as a pivotal link between luxury brands and streetwear fashion, the fragment design x Louis Vuitton collection illuminates new possibilities for collaboration within the industry.
A simple design language, incorporating the lightning logo and minimal branding, further accentuates the exquisite monogram print, which is available across a wide range of lifestyle merchandise and leather goods.
The accompanying apparel collection reimagines LV’s aesthetics with a streetwear twist, offering an accessible and stylish option for the general public to incorporate into their everyday wardrobe.
CLOT x fragment design x Nike Dunk Low
Hiroshi Fujiwara and Edison Chen—two streetwear masters at work. In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the latter’s CLOT label, the duo has reworked one of Nike’s most coveted silhouettes to date—the Nike Dunk Low.
Inspired by the “White Silk” Air Force 1, also known to be one of Fujiwara’s favorite CLOT shoes, the collaborative Dunk Low features a similar white silk upper pattern contrasted by black panels and interior linings, reminiscent of the classic “Panda” colorway.
Marked with a CLOT20 logo on the insoles, this pair is a perfect entry point for a burgeoning collector’s catalogue.
BT21 x fragment design
When the godfather of streetwear joins forces with the global K-pop sensation, it’s a surefire recipe for success. Fujiwara’s collaboration with BT21, the character franchise inspired by BTS members and crafted by LINE FRIENDS, has made waves since its global debut in select countries.
His signature black hue adorns each character mascot, imparting a touch of sophistication to their adorable design. Available in the form of plush toys, graphic tops, bags, and accessories, the collection presents an eye-catching yet versatile interpretation of modern pop culture icons.
Original Tamagotchi FRGMT EDITION
In the midst of the revival of Y2K aesthetics, we’ve witnessed the resurgence of the Tamagotchi, a handheld digital pet game created by Bandai in 1996. Since then, it has become one of the most sought-after collectibles to date.
Fujiwara smartly seized this opportunity to collaborate with the Japanese toy maker, producing a special FRGMT EDITION of the original “Gen 1” Tamagotchi series. This edition features a sleek black frame accentuated with the distinctive lightning logo.
If nostalgia is your thing, then this is an instant must-have.
Besides his associated nicknames, we’d love to dub Fujiwara as a “preview prodigy”, given his consistent unveiling of unreleased materials during events and on social media. We’ve caught glimpses of a Nike SB Zoom Blazer Low, a Converse Jack Purcell collaboration with Moncler, and even a new colorway of the Travis x fragment design x AJ1 Low.
While it remains uncertain whether every pair will eventually hit retailers’ shelves, we’re eagerly anticipating Fujiwara’s ongoing projects.
Rest assured, whenever something new emerges from his endeavors, we’ll be among the first to keep you informed. Stay tuned to SNKRDUNK Magazine and @snkrdunk on Instagram for the latest coverage.
