Over five years have passed since Germany-based streetwear purveryor Asphaltgold and ASICS unveiled their vibrant interpolation of the GEL-DS trainer. Now, the two reunite to take on the EX89, one of ASICS’ newest models.

The EX89 debuted last year as a modern iteration of the GEL Extreme from the ’80s, melding the design of classic basketball shoes with the demands of contemporary fashion.

The structure of the sneaker features subtle material placement and color utilization to capture the spontaneity and improvisational nature of jazz music. Satin notes can be found in the lining, while the upper combines nubuck, hairy suede, and soft leather.

Adjacent details include the Asphaltgold and ASICS branding on the lateral collar and heel. The aesthetic comes together holistically by way of its earth-toned makeup.

They’re scheduled for release on 11 August, 6 pm (EDT) on Asphaltgold’s website, with a subsequent in-store release on the 12 at their Darmstadt store and at POP-Up Store Frankfurt. Find them then and there for 159 EUR (~US$175).

In other news in the space, Palace and Champion are releasing a Fall 2023 collection.
