Lowbrow aka Pop Surrealism—a form of art that reflects the popular culture of America back in the ’60s— is a unique expression of Japanese artist Junna Maruyama. Intrigued by the identity of oneself, her works revolves around the theme of “Who am I?” in an utopian fashion. This time, the Japanese artist takes her art to the next step through a capsule collection with sportswear label ASICS.

From colors to textures, her latest project “SHINE” is reflected on a pair of ASICS GEL-SPOTLYTE Low. Sporting light hues of green, blue and yellow throughout, flame graphics and signature writings decorates the sides in a subtle finish. The duo will also release a special artwork edition to commemorate the release in a limited run of 100 sets.

Next in the lineup comes the Kahana TR in three distinct colorways. Referencing to her signature “Frog Nosuke”, the character makes an appearance on the side panels with her name and also on the heels in multiple silhouettes. Last but not least, attached to the shoelaces comes the character in the form of an accessory.

Accompanying the footwear, a set of co-branded sweatshirts featuring “Frog Nosuke” will also be joining the final lineup.

Set to release on 7th January 2023, the first Junna Maruyama x ASICS collection will be made available for purchase via ASICS and selected retailers.
