Japanese tech conglomerate Rakuten has long been involved with the NBA. Beyond being the distributors for NBA content in Japan, they’re also the official sponsors for the Golden State Warriors. Now, they’re introducing a collaborative new sneaker, creating a three-way collaboration that involves the NBA and Converse on the NBA Rakuten x Converse Chuck Hi.
Design-wise, the NBA Rakuten x Converse Chuck Hi is simple. A black canvas upper along with its white midsole that is one of the staples for the brand. However, what makes this special is that the logos of all 30 NBA teams are featured throughout the shoe’s uppers. The “ALL STAR” heel tabs also come in mismatched colors of red and blue, the official colors of the NBA.
Only 1,800 pairs of these NBA Rakuten x Converse Chuck Hi will exist, and will sell for 17,985JPY (~US$133), making it a limited and exclusive item for NBA fans in Japan. It’s expected to launch in late August this year, and will also come with discount coupons for the NBA League Pass subscription in Japan.
