Here’s some fun trivia: despite the Nike KD 15 only debuting a year ago, it has received over 20 colorways thus far. It’s certain that Nike’s basketball division is looking to push NBA superstar Kevin Durant’s latest signature sneaker as much as they can.

To celebrate the run of KD 15 releases so far, a special “What The” design, which is said to comprise of elements from 10 previous KD 15s, is set to grace Nike’s shelves in due time.

It’s not new for the Swoosh brand to borrow the legendary Nike SB Dunk’s design and reuse it on other silhouettes. Even within Kevin Durant’s repertoire, the KD 7 received a similar makeover back in 2015.

Thankfully for KD fans, you wouldn’t have to search that far back to find the many inspirations that has culminated in the latest KD 15 offering. Starting with the left pair, the uppers’ base comes doused in “Aunt Pearl” colors, while the heel takes on the “Brooklyn Courts” print. The tongue is decorated in the first KD 15 design, the “Beginnings”, and finally the outsole belongs to the “All Star”.

Switching over to the right shoe, “Psychic Purple” takes on the base of the upper. “Aunt Pearl” makes a return on the tongue, while the collaborative pairs with Corda and 9th Wonder appear on the heel, lining, and laces, respectively. “Aimbot” takes on the form of the midsole this time around, while the “All Star” returns on the sockliner as well.

An element that both sides of the basketball shoe share in common are its translucent TPU cage. On both shoes, the lateral side of the cage replicates the “Psychic Purple”‘s glow-in-the-dark component, while the medial reflects the “B.A.D.” look.

When any Nike sneaker gets the “What The” treatment, it automatically becomes one of the most fascinating designs in the lineup. Not only is it a treat for the eyes, there’s literally a story behind almost every section of the shoe.

Expect the Nike KD 15 “What The” to hit Nike’s shelves in the coming months at a retail price of US$160. In the meantime, check out images of the basketball shoe via the top slider above.
