[Update 20 Sep 2023] If you’ve been looking forward to the latest New Balance 2002R “Protection Pack”, here’s the time. [Update 18 Jul 2023] Official images of the latest iteration of the New Balance 2002R “Protection Pack” have arrived. While the hallmark suede overlays are a mainstay, the exposed base layer has been substituted with a ripstop nylon make, giving the pack a more utilitarian feel.

They’ll arrive as a quartet although no firm release date has been disclosed. They’re expected to retail for US$160. Stay tuned for more details!

[Update 26 May 2023] There are several colorways of the New Balance 2002R “Protection Pack” reported to be released this year. While information and images remain scant for the most part, several sources have offered new looks of the “Olive” pair.

In addition, they’re currently projected to be priced at US$150. Stay tuned for more details to emerge within the coming weeks—or months. Till then, enjoy these new images at the gallery above!LINEThe rise and rise of the New Balance 2002R in the past three years have been nothing short of meteoric. New colorways and high-profile collabs continue to get pushed out almost every other week, yet it seems sneaker fans just can’t get enough of the 2002R’s chunky hybrid silhouette.

The 2002R looks set to continue its rule in the upcoming new year, with New Balance gearing up for more releases. By now, NB-heads are already no strangers to the 2002R “Protection pack”. Following the previously-leaked black and khaki pairs, it looks like the Boston footwear brand is also gearing up for a separate collection of 2002R Protection Pack that explores the use of different materials and lacing systems.

Various leaked images show four colorways of the New Balance 2002R Protection Pack featuring nylon uppers with the signature torn-up suede overlays. The colors Mustard, Cream, Navy and Khaki are fall-ready and also point towards the central theme of Gorpcore.

However, the most prominent design tweak here is in the lacing unit—New Balance has replaced regular sneaker laces with toggle laces, a detail that’s rarely seen on the house’s sneakers. In fact, we think these 2002Rs might have taken a leaf from hiking footwear giant Salomon.

As of the time of writing, no release details are available for these pairs, so stay tuned as we continue to bring you the latest updates on these 2002Rs!
