The chunky and wavy New Balance 9060 was first introduced through Joe Freshgood’s “Inside Voices” collection, which saw the model dipped into pastel pinks and dreamy beiges — a deviation from NB’s usual simple palettes. However, since its JFG inception, New Balance has pushed the 990-derived 9060 towards subtlety. Think deep Castlerock blacks and inoffensively classic grays, likely as a means to slowly acclimatise the general audience to the retrofuturist design.

This direction continues on in this New Balance 9060 “Workwear” and “Indigo” pack, which wraps the slightly surreal upper in warm and cool tones. Namely, NB’s now-iconic Workwear browns adds fall-appropriate warmth to the design, while “Indigo” cool-tone blue lands on the other silhouette in the pack.

Though the sole is distinctively surreal, with wavy chunks that nod towards the new generation’s love for subversive fashion, textile materials on the upper are pulled from New Balance’s usual catalog. Luxe smooth suede make up the overlays while mesh inserts sit right under leather trims. The prominent N logo makes an appearance dressed in gray.

Ahead of its global launch, Concepts has been tasked with an exclusive release of the Workwear and Indigo pack on 23 September. In true Concepts style, there’s no skimming on the celebrations. In line with the release of both pairs, priced at US$150, tailors Victor and Cheyenne Adrian are invited such that customers will be able to modify any garments they choose to bring to the shop.
