Maison Margiela x Reebok Zig CR is the Bare Bones of Slip-ons
Maison Margiela's decortiqué technique pares back the chunky slip-on look that's all the fad now.
In the saturated collaborative sneaker space, it’s a feat that every Maison Margiela x Reebok has some form of innovation that adheres to the House’s signature styles. From transforming the Reebok leather silhouettes into a tabi toe to an Instapump Fury upgraded with platform heels, every release only furthers our belief in Margiela’s modern novelty and Reebok’s adaptability. Their latest foray into the slip-on mania only accentuates this — the Maison Margiela x Reebok Zig CR is nothing short of voguish unorthodoxy.
Laceless with a low profile, this Zig CR silhouette is likely meant to be a crossover of a loafer, a croc… and also a trainer? We aren’t quite sure how to place it, and that’s the perhaps the beauty of this model. The EVA-infused sole is reinforced with TPU inserts. The same TPU material is found on the upper, which finishes off with a rubberized leather toe guard. Maison Margiela’s trademark numbers are embossed onto the upper, followed by Reebok’s sleek logo right below.
What makes this slip-on quintessentially Margiela is the sharp cut-outs, which look slightly like that of Reebok’s logo. This sidles up nicely with the House’s decortiqué technique, which practices the reduction of a piece to its most essential structures through slicing and cutting.
This Maison Margiela x Reebok Zig CR was dropped on 26 August 2022 in three colorways — “Triple White”, “Triple Black” and “Black/Red”. These croafers are retailing for US$990.
