New Balance Takes the 1906R to Newer Heights With Gold Detailing & Nubuck Builds
The New Balance 1906R is now settling into its own gold and nubuck skins.
The New Balance 1906R has been a hot topic as of late. A refresh of the original 1906, this updated model modernises the running technology of the shoe by swapping its original sole unit out for the 860V2’s. The result is a more cushy and flexible running experience. It was first debuted under a collaboration with Korean streetwear brand thisisneverthat and is now lined up for an upcoming release with European retailer size?. But in between these partnerships, New Balance is allowing the silhouette to shine in its own skin with two new inline colorways.
Dubbed the New Balance M1906RA, this version utilises a white mesh base with gold and black overlays running across the upper. Hits of silver are also found on the tongue and line panels. Overall, the upper exudes freshness and luxury — not usual descriptors for a running shoe, but a welcomed change. Lying below the white midsole are gold accents that, quite literally, elevates the look.
In contrast, the M1906RB opts for a more understated, neutral display. An olive nubuck builds over black mesh. Synthetic panels land in reflective silver that give the overall silhouette a cool tone aesthetic. Both pairs feature N-Lock lacing systems for a seamless run not disrupted by stray laces. Soles also take on ABZORB technology and N-ergy cushioning to maximise performance and comfort.
To celebrate this in-house 1906R pack, New Balance has enlisted Japanese Fashion Director and Stylist, Akio Hasegawa, to visualise the shoes’ campaign images, which features symmetrical buildings built for functionality. He explains, “The original 1906 model was released in 2009 and I imagined a concept of how things were at that time. The late 90’s and early 2000’s was a time when many pursued expectations for the future and longed for the latest technology.”
The New Balance M1906RA and M1906RB are expected to drop on 12th August in Asia and on 19th August in China. They will retail for ¥16,500 (~US$124).
