Minimialism is the name of the game for Montreal-based creative studio JJJJound. Coming off a recent collaboration with Reebok’s NPC II, which saw the tennis shoe in a full white, it is no surprise that JJJJound’s adoration for the color is carried into this latest JJJJound x ASICS Gel-Kayano 14 collaboration.

ASICS’ Gel-Kayano 14 is no stranger to collaborative overhauls, with it recently being transformed into a weather-resistant, GORE-TEX fit.  But JJJJound’s rendition is perhaps the most simple of them all. Paring back from a multicolor look that the Gel-Kayano 14 usually sports, the model takes on two almost identical colorways.

In the first white and silver iteration, white finds itself on the mesh while metal silver overlays wrap the upper in the classic ASICS style. The silver is ever-so-slightly tinted by black, as if lightly burnt or scuffed, on the heels and toes. Overall, the shoe exudes a clean futuristic vibe that’s easy on the eyes. The second colorway is like the first’s broodier twin. The ASICS striped pattern on the lateral sides are accented with black, giving the shoe a moodier look. On both, the soles and laces are an off-white cream that adds a slight warmth to the overall color palette. JJJJound branding is subtly printed onto heels and insoles.
