New York Knicks Get a Dunk Low Scrap Colourway

Nike finally gives 2-time NBA champion, the New York Knicks their own shoe. There's only one thing wrong, though - they've made it out of 'scraps'.

The Nike Dunk Low Scrap is a bulkier, more layered development upon the classic Dunk Low silhouette. Though Nike continues to pump out an impressive number of new Dunk colourways, the Dunk Low Scrap rarely receives attention from the sneaker giant… until now. Along with a couple other designs, the New York Knickerbockers (more commonly known by their cooler shortened name, “Knicks”) is receiving a colourway in their white, blue and orange team colours.

While the shoe still resembles its predecessor overall, it is interesting how the additional textures and layers change the overall look more than one would expect. The overlays depict multiple shades of blue in smooth and wrinkled leather textures as well as furry suede. The orange Swoosh is double-layered, giving the impression that it’s popping off the unique mesh mid-panel. The toebox, rather than cleanly covering the front of the shoe, consists of two mis-matched leather panels stitched on at awkward angles. Altogether, these elements work in unison to create the impression suggested by the silhouette’s name – that it’s made out of ‘scraps’.

On a side note, the Dunk Low Scraps look curiously like Nike’s NFT project, Dunk Genesis CryptoKicks.

The Nike Dunk Low Scrap “Knicks” doesn’t have an official release date yet, but it is expected to drop this year on Nike SNKRS and selected retailers for a price of US$110.
