Possibly the only pair of shoes you’ll need to bring no matter where you’re heading. This will be the Samwise Gamgee to your Frodo Baggins, they’re with you – as far as you need to go.
By now ASICS, BEAMS, and GORE-TEX should be well-acquainted with each other in the laboratory. The trio have previously released a whole apparel collection in 2019 eloquently conveying form and functionality in the design language.
This time around, they take the GEL-KAYANO 14 – 2008’s Editor’s Choice award winner in Runner’s World magazine – as the base of their design. It retains ASICS’s hallmark GEL® technology on the aged white midsole and GORE-TEX’s signature water-resistant textile on the upper. But the pièce de résistance would have to be the mosquito shroud.
The silhouette and componentry is similar to the Tom Sachs x NikeCraft Mars Yard Overshoe like the Fidlock buckle and the Nifco cord lock. Many found the overall shoe jacket an acquired taste but to others, it was unpalatable. Perhaps they’ll be relieved that ASICS and BEAMS gave this pair a more modular design with the mesh cover being detachable, fastened by popper studs on the tip and mudguard while a zipper secures it around the rest of the shoe.
The release is projected sometime in October 2022 with the price currently set at ¥31,900. There aren’t many details yet about where else they can be purchased except for BEAM’s official store. We’ll share an update though once we get word!
