[Update 24 Aug 2023] We are finally set to see a release of the sacai x Carhartt WIP FW23 collection. Selected products will see a pre-release on 6 September via sacai, Carhartt WIP, Dover Street Market London and the Isetan Men’s pop-up, followed by the full lineup on 8 September via sacai retailers. In the past few months, workwear has been colluding with high fashion to produce hybrid pieces that fuse functional durability with voguish design innovations. And when it comes to making an essential dual, sacai is at fashion’s forefront, so it’s no surprise that Nike and Carhartt WIP collaborations were spotted strutting down the Japanese label’s FW23 runway.

Zooming into the Carhartt WIP pieces, Chitose Abe and sacai’s signature hybridity are evidently present — the former’s utilitarian chore coat silhouette is now transformed through knit, while high-fashion’s favored longline parkas are overlaid with Carhartt’s brown tones and canvas materials.  One high-neck pastel blue sweater particularly caught our eyes. From afar, it looks to be the workwear’s signature corduroy makeup, but closer scrutiny makes the knitted textures obvious.

Of course, it’s not a sacai-branded collection if layering is not present, and Carhartt’s iconic collared outerwears are equipped with quilted bomber jacket linings. The silhouette has also been reimagined as luxury’s famed cropped jackets, adorned with gold buttons and black shearling. All pieces within this collaborative effort come complete with co-branded Carhartt x sacai tags, but the partnership’s spirit is strongly visible even without obvious cobranding embellishments.
