After honoring its designer Wilson Smith, Nike’s first African-American designer, the Nike Air More Uptempo is looking to pay homage to the team that propelled it into pop culture’s fame — the Chicago Bulls. Worn by the Bulls’ point-forward, Scottie Pippen, during the team’s historical 72-10 season, the Nike Air More Uptempo is often touted to be the maximalist and artsy take on the traditional basketball silhouette.

Such a reputation remains its differentiating factor and is perhaps the reason for its loyal base of enthusiasts, and it would not escape them that this “Red Toe” colorway is heavily inspired by the Chicago Bulls’ statement hues. Featuring a black nubuck base and mesh tongues, the scarlet shade is used to pipe the iconic “AIR” branding across the upper. This red is also used as accents on the tongue, heel, outsole Swoosh, and of course, the toe box. A black midsole is fitted with air pockets and a white rubber outsole.

This Nike Air More Uptempo “Red Toe” has been released in the Western world on 14 November at a retail price of US$160, but a wider global release is still up in the air. We’ll be sure to update this page with more release information as soon as it is made available, so keep SNKRDUNK Magazine in your bookmarks!

In the meantime, why not check out this Nike Dunk Low “ATL” that pays tribute to a city outside of LA and New York (shocking, we know!)?
