Latino Heritage Month is in its final leg this year but Nike still has more to include in their commemorative “Somos Familia” pack. Succeeding the Air Max 1 and the Dunk High, the Air Jordan 1 will soon be part of the family too.

This iteration of the AJ1 stays thematically-consistent with the rest of the pack. While the Dunk High and the titular shoe might share a similar build through their design DNA, the subtleties in their differences are expounded in the collection. The motifs that’s imbedded into them are more or less the same, but the color palette between them provides some contrast.

Contrary to the Dunk High’s brown leather overlays, the AJ 1 sees a more light cream base contrasted with pink and orange towards the rear components. The former making up the entirety of the tongue with the latter anchoring the pair on the ankle collar and the Swooshes. The color of the upper falls over to envelop the midsoles as well while the outsole carries a lighter beige.

The construction involves a mix of materials including suede on the overlays, leather on the base, and mesh and canvas on the tongue and collar. Underfoot, the pair comes equipped with a lightweight Zoom CMFT cushioning for longer comfort and wearability.

The motifs on the shoe share the similar hispanic-inspired embroidery on the Swooshes and an all-over floral aztec graphics on the quarter. On the heel is an imprint of a butterfly insignia with “SIEMPRE JUNTOS” surrounding it, which translates to “always together”. The same appears on the insole and the shoebox as well.

There currently is no release date announced yet nor a price point but it should be within the coming weeks if Nike wants to release them in line with the heritage month.

Similarly, there’s also the “We Are Familia” pack that includes the Air Trainer 1 and the Air Force 1 that commemorates Mexico’s Day of the Dead.
