From 16 April 2016 for as long as stocks lasted, anyone who purchased a Premium Champion Pack [CP4] booster box from any participating Pokémon Card Gym venue, Pokémon Center, and Pokémon Store in Japan would receive a promotional Jirachi card. Almost a decade later, the card has become one of the most coveted Gen 6 Pokémon TCG promos.

About Jirachi (XY-P Promotional Cards 235/XY-P)

A reprint of a prior sixth-generation promotional card featuring the Mythical Pokémon, both the card’s Full Art illustration and its Dream Dance attack allude to the lore behind it. In the illustration, Jirachi is backed by a motif full of stars—referencing how Jirachi is based on the legend behind the Japanese festival Tanabata, while Dream Dance puts both Jirachi and the opposing Pokémon to sleep; this refers to how Jirachi is only awake for one week every thousand years. Jirachi’s “true eye” can also be clearly seen; however, it’s closed.

This card’s limited availability period is the main factor behind its high value today. In addition, with the upcoming release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the prequel to Gen 6 main-series video games Pokémon X and Y, interest in all things related to Gen 6, including Gen 6 cards, has been elevated.
