There’s a case to be made that Switch is the single most iconic Item card in Pokémon TCG history. With more than 200 iterations since its debut in the very first Pokémon TCG set—Expansion Pack all the way back in 1996—just about everyone who has ever picked up a Pokémon TCG booster pack knows about and has seen Switch.

Switch is the single most-reprinted Pokémon TCG card of all time and it isn’t even close. Out of all these versions of the card, the biggest get among them has to be the Ultra Rare (UR) version from Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a].

About Switch (Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a] 209/165)

The card’s illustration depicts two Poké Balls being rotated—a reference to the simple yet extremely useful effect of the card which allows the player to swap out the Active Pokémon with a Benched Pokémon. Like all other cards of the UR rarity, this card has a gold-colored border and background; the Poké Balls as well as Switch itself are also outlined in gold; this adds an air of prestige to the imagery.

Switch has always been an important part of the Pokémon TCG metagame going all the way back to Gen 1. The decks which include it take full advantage of the quick and simple pivoting option it provides to either get a vulnerable Active Pokémon out of trouble or bring in a Benched Pokémon which has been fully set up to exploit a matchup advantage.
