[Pokémon TCG] Expansion Set Release: Black Bolt / White Flare [Release Date/Price/Where To Buy]
We might have just found the next Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a].
The Japanese release date of an upcoming Pokémon TCG dual expansion set has now been confirmed—and this new set is sure to send shockwaves throughout the Pokémon TCG community. The dual set of Black Bolt and White Flare, which launches in Japan on 6 June 2025, has the potential to become one of the most coveted Pokémon TCG sets of all time.
About Black Bolt and White Flare
Black Bolt and White Flare, the first Pokémon TCG dual set since Wild Force [SV5K] and Cyber Judge [SV5M], will feature all 156 Pokémon from the fifth generation; the headliner cards will be a Reshiram and a Zekrom card. Reshiram and Zekrom were the box legendaries of Gen 5’s Pokémon Black and White video games. The Tao duo will also be featured on the set’s deck boxes and card sleeves.
Cards from Black Bolt and White Flare will also have mirror holofoil versions of selected cards. This, coupled with the fact that the set includes all the Gen 5 Pokémon, clearly proves that Black Bolt and White Flare will be intended to be a spiritual successor to the iconic Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a] set. The last time that mirror holofoil cards were made for selected cards was in Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a].
In addition, the idea behind the set is the same as that behind Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a] because Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a] deliberately played to nostalgia, particularly those of people in their 30s as that would’ve been the age group which grew up with Pokémon’s first generation—the generation around which Pokémon Card 151 [SV2a] was based. In the same vein, Black Bolt and White Flare will likely appeal to those in the 18-25 age bracket as this was the age group which grew up with Gen 5.
Also to be released on 5 June—one day before Black Bolt and White Flare—in conjunction with the dual set’s drop will be the Black Bolt & White Flare Card File Set which will contain an unknown number of booster packs, a promotional Victini card, and a binder. It isn’t yet known if the Victini card will be an entirely new card, a reprint of a currently unreleased card, or a reprint of an existing card.
No prices have been confirmed as of yet. Stay tuned for that information.
