Rock Chestplate, a Pokémon Tool card from Scarlet ex [SV1S], had almost never been seen in tournament play until September 2024 when the 2024-25 Pokémon TCG tournament season began. The new season brought with it a new meta-relevant deck—the highly defensive Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon/Noivern ex deck in which it’s proven to be a perfect fit.

About Rock Chestplate (Scarlet ex [SV1S] 071/078)

Rock Chestplate reduces the amount of damage sustained by the Fighting-type Pokémon to which it’s attached by 30 after weakness and resistance are factored in. Ideally, this is to be attached to the Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex card from Mask of Change [SV6]; although Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex is a Rock-type Pokémon, Rock-type and Ground-type Pokémon use Fighting Energy cards in the TCG and are thus eligible for this card’s effect. Coupled with Cornerstone Stance, Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex’s Ability, this card makes Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex very difficult to take down.

This card’s notability is essentially entirely predicated on its gameplay viability. Coming in at a rarity of Uncommon (U), Rock Chestplate isn’t particularly rare and thus fairly inexpensive. While the card has received two reprints since Scarlet ex [SV1S], both reprints have the same visuals and rarity.
