It’s Go Skateboarding Day, So Here Are Great Skate Shoes on the SNKRDUNK App
Do you sk8, m8?
If you’re a skater and privy to the culture, you’d know that today marks the annual holiday known as “Go Skateboarding Day”, or “International Skate Day”, as those outside the United States might call it. As you head out and shred the sunny streets, it’d be rad if you bore in mind the roots of this significant event in skate culture and geared up for the occasion accordingly.

When is Go Skateboarding Day?
Go Skateboarding Day, or International Skate Day, falls on 21 June every year. This date isn’t by accident either; it is the longest day of the year in the US (summer equinox), meaning there’s really no better time.
What is Go Skateboarding Day?
In 2003, the former marking director of the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC), Don Brown, wanted to give the global skateboarding community a day to pay homage to their favorite sport, hit skate parks together, and celebrate the culture. After the co-founder of Birdhouse Skateboards Per Welinder suggested the event name, Go Skateboarding Day was born.
Then, a couple of years later in 2005, US Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez officially made the day a holiday. Ever since then, skateparks, skate shops, and streets worldwide have been taken over on this special day. Often, local skate shops host barbeques and offer contests for those in the culture to win skate gear—all while live music is playing.
So, if you’re a skater, here’s wishing you a super awesome Go Skateboarding Day. We hope you have a great time on your favorite board and in your favorite pair of skate shoes. In case you’re looking to re-up, have a look at some of the awesome skate shoes we offer on the SNKRDUNK App below!
