[ONE PIECE Card Game] “True Love” Isn’t So True After All: Charlotte Pudding (Pillars of Strength [OP-03] OP03-112)

To say that this card (like the storyline it's based on) subverts the narrative would be an understatement.

ONE PIECE Card Game Charlotte Pudding

One of the major sub-plots of the One Piece manga’s Whole Cake Island Arc centered around the supposed arranged marriage between Charlotte Pudding and Sanji—one which ultimately never came to fruition for multiple different reasons and led to various new plot points opening up. As is probably obvious, this Charlotte Pudding card from ONE PIECE Card Game set Pillars of Strength [OP-03] alludes to this storyline.

Not only does the illustration depict Pudding in her bridal gown; the general light-hearted tone of the card’s aesthetics in general give off a tone of innocence and placidity. This is a direct subversion of the events in the manga that took place immediately after; the supposed marriage was really a cover for the Charlotte family’s attempt to assassinate the Vinsmoke family to which Sanji belonged.

The fact that this card’s illustration is based on a crucial narrative turning point in the manga is sure to be a selling point for many. Add that to the fact that it has a full-body illustration of a female character (and one who fits a certain female character archetype that’s highly appealing to some, at that) as well as the card’s impressive rarity of Special Rare (R-SPC) and all the elements are in place for a seriously impressive pull.

This card has already been released in English.

One copy of a Charlotte Pudding (Pillars of Strength [OP-03] OP03-112) card of R-SPC rarity sells for 14,000 JPY (~US$89).
