Following the imposition of new rulings regarding card restrictions in Yu-Gi-Oh TCG tournament gameplay, the recent release of Infinite Forbidden, the newest Core Booster, has had a major impact on the metagame. Among the archetypes to which this set granted notable boosts include Memento, Tenpai Dragon, and Gimmick Puppet. With Tenpai Dragon already one of the leading deck archetypes, Infinite Forbidden more or less solidified its spot on top of the pile.

Three new archetypes have entered the game: Multchummy, Fiendsmith, and White Woods. Of these, White Woods has turned out to be the most viable in tournament play—though not quite at the level needed to be featured in this upcoming article, unlike the following decks:

Tenpai Dragon

A staple of the meta ever since its introduction, Tenpai Dragon is now the consensus pick for “best deck archetype” following the release of Infinite Forbidden. A deck known for its remarkable efficiency, Tenpai Dragon decks make use of Synchro Summons to increase the number of attacks used and thus rapidly deplete the opponent’s Life Points.

Further emphasizing the efficiency of the deck is the fact that its main functions can be used with relatively few cards. This allows for more options for counterplay against decks which would ordinarily pose difficult matchups due to the larger number of open slots available.

Fire King Snake-Eye

After a recent slight drop-off due to restrictions imposed on two of the deck’s primary cards, the Fire King Snake-Eye deck has bounced back as many players have since found several viable alternatives. In general, most Snake-Eye and Fire King cards have attributes that cancel out many of the other’s weaknesses; this makes counterplay against the Fire King Snake-Eye deck much more difficult than that against most other decks.

Ever since the restrictions were put in place, this deck hasn’t been quite as fast-paced as its pre-restriction predecessor; nevertheless, this hasn’t inhibited its counter-attacking potency in any way. This highly flexible deck is designed to easily adapt to opponents’ strategies and enable the player to respond accordingly.

Snake-Eye

Another deck previously hit by the most recent wave of restrictions, the Snake-Eye deck has begun to bounce back as players have found options that largely enable the deck to operate in the way it had been before those restrictions. Just as was the case before the rulings came in, the new version of this deck makes use of several methods that deploy Link Monsters to disrupt opponents’ strategies; in this way, the resource gap will widen in favor of the player.

The usual tactics when using this deck involve turning monsters on the board or in the graveyard into Continuous Spell Cards. By doing so, the player can apply pressure on the opponent’s Spell & Trap Zone. In some scenarios, it’s also advisable to turn monsters into Spell Cards as the cost of an effect.
