Pokémon TCG Roaring Moon

Prior to the release of Wild Force [SV5K] and Cyber Judge [SV5M], decks built around the Roaring Moon ex card from Ancient Roar [SV4K] had already been some of the most dominant in the Pokémon TCG metagame. Then, when these two sets dropped, the Dragon/Dark-type Paradox Pokémon made another appearance—this time in its non-ex form.

Roaring Moon can either be paired with its ex form or played on its own—both options are equally viable. When Roaring Moon is used on its own, the Vengeance Fletching attack works well in decks that involve discarding many cards or as a late-game finisher. The more Ancient Pokémon in the player’s discard pile, the more damage the attack does—and at 70 or more damage for two Dark Energy cards, it’s a highly efficient attack to boot.

If paired with Roaring Moon ex, this card is mainly used in its late-game finisher role. Roaring Moon ex will mainly be there to dish out the big hits early on. Then, when the player’s discard pile has begun to fill up—often with KO’d Pokémon along the way—Roaring Moon steps in to deal the finishing blow.

This card’s illustration can be regarded as a “prequel” to that of the Roaring Moon ex card of SAR rarity. The Pokémon is depicted in a similar dominant pose, standing in what is likely the same portion of Area Zero shown in the Roaring Moon ex card’s illustration.

The English version of this card is card 109/162 in the Temporal Forces [TEF] expansion set.

The retail price of a Roaring Moon (Wild Force [SV5K] 051/071) card is affordable, coming in at just 1,000 JPY (~US$6.60).
