The variant of the Raging Bolt ex deck which has now become the predominant one makes use of the Slither Wing card from Ancient Roar [SV4K]. The card depicting the Ancient Paradox form of Volcarona has, to many Pokémon TCG experts, now gone from being merely optional to all but necessary within the Raging Bolt ex deck.

About Slither Wing (Ancient Roar [SV4K] 074/066)

As Slither Wing is a Fighting-type Pokémon, it therefore has a type matchup advantage against some of the biggest offensive threats in the current metagame. Examples of such cards with a Fighting-type weakness include Terapagos ex from Stellar Miracle [SV7], Pikachu ex from Super Electric Breaker [SV8], Cinccino from Wild Force [SV5K], and Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex from Crimson Haze [SV5a]. Interestingly, all of these cards were released after Slither Wing’s Ancient Roar [SV4K] set was, making Slither Wing an example of a card for which subsequent releases made it a meta-relevant card.

For just two Fighting Energy cards, Slither Wing can use the Burning Turbulence attack with, when coupled with the aforementioned type weakness, strikes those Pokémon for 240 damage; it one-shots most of them. Although the attack does 90 damage to Slither Wing itself, this isn’t an issue because Slither Wing is a single-Prize Pokémon. The usual idea is to use Burning Turbulence on a Pokémon-ex to set up a 2-for-1 Prize trade, thus either setting up a comeback or applying further pressure on the opponent.

The Art Rare (AR) version of this card has a Full Art illustration which depicts Slither Wing in the strange and dangerous Area Zero—the place where Paradox Pokémon live. The imagery’s general aesthetic and color scheme convey a foreboding tone that goes some way to capturing the essence of the ominous feel of Area Zero; the close-up on Slither Wing’s crossed-out eye adds to this feel.

The English translation of this card is card 203/182 from Paradox Rift [PAR].

A Slither Wing (Ancient Roar [SV4K] 074/066) card doesn’t cost all that much—a copy sells for 1,110 JPY (~US$7).
