Yu-Gi-Oh TCG Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess

Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess had been one of the cards which many Yu-Gi-Oh TCG players had long been urging Konami to ban. It was one of the main pieces that made the Fiendsmith Snake-Eye deck the overpowering force that it was, with many claiming that it was a card that outright gave the player unfair, uncounterable advantages. As such, Konami banned Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess from tournament play outside Japan and the rest of Asia-Pacific starting from 2 September 2024.

About Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess (Rising Rampage RIRA-JP048)

Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess was banned for several reasons. For example, Fiendsmith Snake-Eye decks no longer have overwhelming advantages over decks which were ostensibly created to counter them such as decks that include Extra Pack 2019 card Nibiru, the Primal Being. It’s also no longer possible to use I:P Masquerena from Quarter Century Chronicle side:UNITY to summon an indestructible 3-material or 4-material Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess—a setup that required far too low of a risk for much too great of a reward.

In addition, the presence of Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess in the meta was a contributor to a steep reduction in the diversity of tournament-level decks, thus rendering an excessive number of decks cards unplayable or close to it. That being said, some have claimed that from a broader meta perspective, this card’s ban might not change much in the grand scheme of things because Snake-Eye decks outside Japan and Asia-Pacific are likely to get a further boost with the coming release of Rage of the Abyss.

This card has appeal for collectors as well. For one thing, this card comes in the rarity of 20th Secret Rare—the rarity created to honor the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG’s 20th anniversary back in 2019. The usual value boost that comes with cards featuring female characters is in play as well; the card’s illustration plays this factor up by depicting Apollousa in a somewhat revealing outfit. This card also holds a unique position in Yu-Gi-Oh TCG history as the first-ever Link Monster card with ? ATK.
