Yu-Gi-Oh TCG Maliss RED RANSOM

Although the primary standouts of Crossover Breakers, the recently-released Yu-Gi-Oh TCG Deck Build Pack, are (as expected) the three cards that can come in Quarter Century Secret Rare, to act as though there are no other highlights in the set would be a mistake. Available in the rarity of Secret Rare, Maliss <Q> RED RANSOM is one of those cards that shouldn’t go overlooked.

About Maliss <Q> RED RANSOM (Deck Build Pack: Crossover Breakers DBCB-JP018)

First off, Maliss <Q> RED RANSOM has the novelty factor going for it. That’s because it’s a card of the Maliss archetype—one which has just made its Yu-Gi-Oh TCG debut. In addition, the card has canonical relevance as the direct counterpart of Maliss <Q> WHITE BINDER.

Like Maliss <Q> WHITE BINDER, Maliss <Q> RED RANSOM requires 2 or more Link Materials, including a Maliss monster, to be Link Summoned. Both cards also have 2300 ATK and are Link 3 monsters. Their illustrations match as well—both illustrations depicted their respective characters in mirrored posts while their Link Arrows match when mirrored.

Of course, there’s the fact that this card depicts a female character as well, raising its value. Finally, there are two further allusions included; the card’s name refers to ransomware while the character herself is Konami’s take on the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland. Both are reflective of the Maliss archetype which simultaneously references Alice in Wonderland as well as computer malware.

Release Details

As part of Crossover Breakers, this card’s English release date matches that of the rest of the set: 6 December 2024.

Buying a Secret Rare Maliss <Q> RED RANSOM (Deck Build Pack: Crossover Breakers DBCB-JP018) card will cost 3,000 JPY (~US$21).
