Could an Imran Potato x New Balance 9060 Collaboration Be Stewing?

Since its debut on the 320 model in 1976, New Balance’s iconic “N” logo has become synonymous with the brand. Nearly every subsequent shoe has proudly displayed this signature mark. However, fashion designer Imran Potato might be on the verge of rewriting the playbook.

Potato recently teased a potential New Balance collaboration on Instagram, tagging the brand and adding a cryptic “#leak” for good measure. The post showcased a blacked-out New Balance 9060, a departure from Potato’s typically bold footwear creations. But the real eye-catcher was the replacement of the classic “N” logo with a bold “P”. This audacious rebranding extends to the tongue and toebox, where Potato’s interpretation of New Balance’s insignia takes center stage.

If this is indeed a legitimate collaboration, it marks a groundbreaking departure for New Balance. Yet, there’s also a strong possibility that Potato is simply stirring the pot. Known for his penchant for bootlegging and outlandish footwear designs—from chunky America Cup knockoffs to whimsical caveman clogs and even Rat Slides—Potato has a history of collaborating with and challenging established brands. His successful partnership with Vans on the oversized Old Skool model hints at his ability to influence mainstream fashion.

Whether this latest venture is a genuine collaboration or another of Potato’s playful provocations remains to be seen. One thing is certain: the fashion world is watching closely.
