[Pokémon TCG] An Iconic Card Returns: Rare Candy (Violet ex [SV1V] 107/078)
More than two decades after its introduction, this card is still as coveted and relevant as ever.
When third-generation Pokémon TCG set Miracle of the Desert introduced the Rare Candy card all the way back in 2003, it was a genuine game-changer. This card enabled the player to evolve any of the player’s Pokémon at any time including the first turn—and in some cases, even skip the Pokémon’s Stage 1 evolution entirely, going straight to Stage 2. While this card has since been nerfed, it nevertheless remains a staple of many Pokémon TCG tournament decks.
Of the dozens of versions of this card that have been released since its debut 21 years and six generations ago, one of the most desired is the Ultra Rare (UR) version from Violet ex [SV1V]. Like all other UR cards, this particular Rare Candy card has a gold holofoil and border, giving the card a sense of prestige and exclusivity.
The Rare Candy itself has a gold border as well. This not only matches the overall design and aesthetic of the card; it also highlights the immense power of the card.
The Violet ex [SV1V] iteration of Rare Candy is just the third in the history of the Pokémon TCG to be of UR rarity. The previous two came in Megalo Cannon [BW9] back in 2013, then in Sun & Moon [SM1+] in 2017. There’s no telling how long it’ll be before another UR Rare Candy card arises, increasing the demand for this card.
In English, this card is card 256/198 in the Scarlet & Violet [SV1] set.
A copy of a Rare Candy (Violet ex [SV1V] 107/078) card costs 4,000 JPY (~US$25).
