Owing to the recent buzz around Pokémon TCG cards from Crown Zenith, that set’s Japanese counterparts in the VSTAR Universe [S12a] set are among the cards to watch as of right now—the hype around their English versions could very possibly end up spilling over. The Leafeon VSTAR card is among those which have seen a recent price jump for that reason.

One of two VSTAR Eeveelutions in VSTAR Universe [S12a], Leafeon VSTAR has always been among the set’s most sought-after cards. The card’s Full Art illustration directly references Leafeon VSTAR’s status as the Grass-type Eeveelution, placing it against a wall surrounded by many plants and flowers.

The holofoil has been positioned so as to add aesthetic depth. It makes it seem as though light is streaming into an otherwise dimly-lit area through the nearby plants. This also adds more character to the card as well as to Leafeon VSTAR itself—it almost appears as though Leafeon VSTAR is photosynthesizing. This may also reference Chlorophyll, Leafeon’s Hidden Ability from the Pokémon video games.

In addition to its status as an Eeveelution boosting its appeal, this card has the rarity of Special Art Rare (SAR), making it one of the rarest and most valuable cards of the set.

This card’s English version is card GG35/GG70 in the Crown Zenith set.

The sale price of a Leafeon VSTAR (VSTAR Universe [S12a] 210/172) card in its SAR form is 4,600 JPY (~US$29).
