[Pokémon TCG] Enhanced Hammer Returns After Its Absence from Gen 8 (Mask of Change [SV6] 132/101)
"Stop! Hammer time." –MC Hammer
Enhanced Hammer is a card that’s become a staple of the Pokémon TCG over its more than decade-long run. First introduced way back in 2011 as part of the fifth-generation set Dark Rush [BW4], Enhanced Hammer would go on to be reprinted in Gen 6 several times after debuting in XY-P Promotional Cards and Gen 7 several more following its Enhanced Expansion Pack Sun & Moon [SM1+] edition but made no appearances in Gen 8. However, it was most recently brought back in Gen 9 as part of Crimson Haze [SV5a].
Most recently, Enhanced Hammer received a reprint in the Mask of Change [SV6] set—this time, however, it came in the rarity of Ultra Rare (UR). The 12th version of Enhanced Hammer, the Mask of Change [SV6] version is just the third to have the UR rarity after those from sixth-generation set Tidal Storm [XY5] and seventh-generation set Alolan Moonlight [SM2L].
The card’s Full Art illustration displays the Enhanced Hammer in front of a gold background adorned with sparkles—similar to that of most cards that also have the UR rarity. To enhance this visual effect and add to the sense of prestige that comes with the card’s rarity, the Enhanced Hammer is outlined in gold; the card’s outer border comes in the same color.
Back during its Gen 5 to 7 days, Enhanced Hammer was a metagame staple. It’s likely to be the same way once again—leading to increased demand from serious players as well as collectors.
The English iteration of this version of the Enhanced Hammer card isn’t out yet.
Buying an Enhanced Hammer (Mask of Change [SV6] 132/101) card of UR rarity costs 2,000 JPY (~US$13).
