In most cases, the language in which a Yu-Gi-Oh TCG card is in doesn’t affect either its rarity or value. However, the Aromalilith Rosemary card from Phantom Nightmare is a clear exception to this rule. This is because not every language’s version of Phantom Nightmare contains the coveted Quarter Century Secret Rare version of this DARK Monster card.

Copies of Aromalilith Rosemary that come in Quarter Century Secret Rare, the unique rarity specifically created for the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG’s 25th anniversary, only exist in the Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese editions of Phantom Nightmare as well as English versions released in the Asia-Pacific region. Phantom Nightmare’s translations in other languages as well as English versions from elsewhere only have the Super Rare iteration of this card.

The fact that this card’s Quarter Century Secret Rare version is region-locked increases its exclusivity, thus driving up its overall value. In addition, from a visual perspective, the card’s holofoil accentuates the purple starry background that gives the card a mystical, ethereal vibe that’s a perfect fit for the character depicted.

As is so often the case, this card is the beneficiary of the usual demographically-driven “female character boost”. The illustrator also played to this element through the placement of Rosemary’s staff as well as her eyes which aren’t fully open—both clearly add suggestive overtones.

This card has already been released in English.

The price of a Quarter Century Secret Rare Aromalilith Rosemary (Phantom Nightmare PHNI-JP050) card is 3,980 JPY (~US$26).
