[SNKRDUNK Selects] Best TCG Products To Buy Now (April 2024)
Here's a selection of what's been trending in the TCG world lately.
Here at SNKRDUNK, we consider it important to be in touch with what you—our valued customers and visitors—are looking for as far as TCG cards are concerned.
That’s why we’ve compiled a list of TCG products that have been seeing recent sale spikes—while some are obvious, others have been “flying under the radar” but nonetheless have been trending.
Yu-Gi-Oh TCG Quarter Century Chronicle side:Pride Box
Released on 23 March 2024 as one of multiple commemorations of the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG’s 25th anniversary, Quarter Century Chronicle side:Pride is the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG’s latest booster pack. One booster pack box from this set—the direct sequel to Quarter Century Chronicle side:Unity—contains 15 4-card packs.
Every card in the set has a Quarter Century Secret Rare version while 60 have an Ultimate Rare iteration. Most exciting of all—just 1,000 packs have a side:Pride token in them! This token gives recipients the opportunity to receive an exclusive card via the Quarter Century Unity & Pride Campaign side:Pride. Will that token be yours? Well, there’s only one way to find out!
Pokémon TCG Crimson Haze [SV5a] Box
Crimson Haze [SV5a], a Pokémon TCG set based on the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC The Teal Mask, launched on 22 March 2024. Its cards are purchasable in the form of a box that contains 30 5-card booster packs.
Of the 96 cards in this expansion set, eight of them stand out—three Ultra Rare (UR) and five Special Art Rare (SAR) cards. In addition, Crimson Haze [SV5a] is the first expansion set since Raging Surf [SV3a] to be authorized for the Sealed format of gameplay—a Pokémon TCG variant only officially played in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
ONE PIECE Card Game Koby (OP02-098)
A card first issued as part of the Paramount War (OP-02) booster pack, this Koby card became significantly more coveted when it was awarded as a prize for top-8 finishers in certain Flagship Battles.
This card featuring the Marine Captain from SWORD has consistently ranked among the top-selling cards on a variety of TCG retail platforms. It just goes to show that a TCG card doesn’t necessarily have to be the rarest or most expensive or even depend on a character’s mass fan appeal to become a major draw.
ONE PIECE Card Game Perona (OP06-093)
Another Flagship Battle prize card for top-8 finishers, this Perona card first released as part of the Wings of the Captain [OP-06] booster pack depicts the “Ghost Princess” using the power she was granted by the Hollow-Hollow Fruit to create and control a horde of ghosts.
Both the character and the ghosts she’s summoned have the same vacant, vaguely hypnotic gaze—and from an aesthetic perspective, this might actually add to the card’s visual appeal. Of course, it never hurts a card’s desirability if it depicts a female character. Add this to the card’s premium status as first having been a tournament prize and it shouldn’t come as any surprise that it’s been trending lately.
Pokémon TCG Perrin SR (Crimson Haze [SV5a] 087/066)
What’s really intriguing about this card’s entry on this list is the fact that there’s an even rarer and more valuable version of this card from the Crimson Haze [SV5a] expansion set. You’d probably assume that most people would be after this card’s Special Art Rare (SAR) version—but it’s been the Super Rare (SR) iteration that’s been picking up sales value.
While this card once again gets the usual “female character boost” in both value and popularity, the elevated price tag of the SAR card might be what’s drawing people to the SR card instead. Should the SAR card’s value happen to slip at any point, perhaps the trend might reverse.
